Catalogue note
A corridor ninety metres long with windows down one side, exposed for nine hours. Because Quist lets light accumulate rather than solving for it, the far end of the room is genuinely underexposed — there is noise in it, and the noise is not decorative. The work's subject is the fourth window, where a pane is missing and the light arrives without the softening the others give it, landing as a hard parallelogram on a floor she has made deliberately ordinary. The exposure log is transferred with the file and records the hours. It is the least romantic document imaginable and it is half the work.
